Thomas Penn-Lockwood is a UX/UI designer and strategist who collaborates on digital projects with other JS creatives. He’s experienced in crafting human-centered user experiences, interface design, iterative prototyping and ultimately work that encourages audience engagement and retention.
He joined our team in 2019 after five years with 3 Owl, an independent branding and web design agency that he co-founded. While there, his work generated numerous awards, including a 2018 W3 Silver Award for the Papi’s Cuban Grill website and a 2017 Vega Best Restaurant Website for Mellow Mushroom. Despite his entrepreneurial success, Thomas wanted the opportunity to apply his skills to larger clients, and we’re glad he was up for the challenge.
As a songwriter and professional guitarist, Thomas took a circuitous route into design by way of his earlier career as a musician and guitar teacher. His design work began with band posters for the ATL Collective and fellow Atlanta artists and progressed to work for performance venues and restaurants.
Thomas earned a degree in music management from Georgia State University and toured for several years with various acts including Shook Foil and Tyler Lyle. He’s a natural mentor, teaching music lessons for 10 years and guest lecturing in high schools to encourage careers in digital design.
Orienteering is not only part of his day job, but it’s also what he enjoys in his off time. He once took a two-week back-roads bike trip from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. and enjoys hiking and camping in America’s national parks whenever he can. Closer to home, he and his wife, Anna, are restoring a century-old bungalow in Adair Park.
