Talented People but it’s the character that counts

Robert Bumgarner

Since starting at JS in 2015, Robert has grown into a jack-of-all-trades on our creative team who churns out anything from animation to art direction. His portfolio includes a wide range of work for clients like The Coca-Cola Company, Delta Air Lines, SCANA Energy and many others.

Robert’s career began in television as a Production Assistant at WTVD in his hometown of Durham, N.C. There, he focused on graphic design and served as an occasional camera operator. Next, he worked at WNCT in Greenville, N.C., stepping into the role of Promotional Producer — that guy who creates the promos teasing the evening news. This position gave him great video production and motion graphics experience, and his work was eventually picked up by CBS  partner stations.

A graduate of Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., Robert was a 4-year starter on the Blue Hose football team (yes, that’s actually what they’re called). His tenacity on the gridiron was recognized his senior year with the Billy Tiller Memorial Trophy, and his two seconds of fame occurred on ESPN’s Sports Center when his team snagged the #1 spot on its “Top 10 Plays.”

Inside the classroom, Robert opted for an English degree, the closest major available to advance his creative ambitions. Some might be surprised to learn that he also minored in theatre and dabbled in Shakespeare—and Robert still maintains that a full theater is more terrifying than any opponent he faced on the football field.

When he’s not working, Robert loves binging the latest hit show and drinking wine with his wife, playing blocks and/or mermaid princesses with his 2-year-old, making ridiculous noises and faces at his 6-month-old, and religiously watching Duke basketball.
