Amanda brings a natural gift for storytelling and a passion for education to our Orkin, SCANA Energy and higher education teams, where she assists them with content marketing, social media and copywriting.
Amanda started her writing career at a young age, writing and editing brochures for the family business, a baby mattress manufacturing company. Growing up in a family-run business instilled in her a strong work ethic, which she carried to the Ivy League, where she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English and a minor in urban education. While in school, she tutored fellow students in writing and took her skills outside of campus by teaching creative writing in local public schools – lessons that sometimes included slam poetry workshops.
Following graduation, Amanda began her post-collegiate career not in her native Georgia but on the other side of the world. Through a Fulbright grant, she taught English in rural Malaysia for a year. Part of her work included starting the country’s first English-language creative writing competition.
Afterward, she combined her passions for education and writing as the associate director of marketing and communications for Technology Association of Georgia Education Collaborative, a non-profit dedicated to STEM learning. She played a key role in the organization’s external marketing, social media and digital presence.
Outside of the office, Amanda teaches English to refugees who have resettled in Atlanta through the International Rescue Committee. She also chases an adventurous streak, which has included skydiving. Not surprisingly, her dream is to one day publish a story of her own: a children’s book about a girl who grows up in a pillow factory.
