There Is No Excuse for Companies and Organizations to Avoid Social Media
Jackson Spalding’s New Social Media Director Says Social Media is a Direct Line to Customer Hearts and Minds
ATLANTA (Jan. 20,2011) – Stefany Sanders, the newly hired Social Media Director for Jackson Spalding, believes that companies can no longer take a “wait and see” attitude about social media.
“Social media is no longer the wave of the future- it’s the most relevant way to engage customer and employee audiences today,” Sanders says. “Companies that avoid it will fall behind quickly in the next few years.” Ms. Sanders comes to Jackson Spalding from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she served as the Director of Communications for the College of Computing. She served previous posts at the Georgia Centers for Advanced Telecommunications Technology and at Virillion, where she helped pioneer digital communications for national political advocacy groups in Washington, D.C. She began her career on the agency side and is pleased to be back in a consultative setting.
“I was pleasantly surprised to see so many Jackson Spalding clients already engaged in social media,” she said. “My goal over the next 12 months is to help all of our clients get comfortable in the space.” As Social Media Director, Ms. Sanders will help the Jackson Spalding team become even more proficient with constantly evolving social media channels and she will pass on that expertise to clients interested in leveraging new online channels for core constituencies. She is available for clients who want one-on-one tutorials as well as clients who need to build a social media function or social media promotion within their organization.
Ms. Sanders says that the dramatic rise in social media puts renewed emphasis on the importance of building cultural bonds between management and employees as well as between corporations and their clients. “If employees know what the company stands for and feel that their voice is heard internally, they are very unlikely to become online detractors,” she says. “Likewise, if companies live out their brand promise in all that they do externally, they are very likely to have a fan base that comes to their defense online.” She tells clients that social media provides not only an early warning system regarding customer issues and attitudes, but also a channel where organizations and corporations can correct misimpressions right away.
“We have searched very diligently to find the right person to provide cutting-edge counsel for our clients. Stefany’s education and career experiences make her a great fit for Jackson Spalding. Her arrival comes at the perfect time for us and our evolving client needs,” says Jackson Spalding Co-Founder Glen Jackson.
A native of Annapolis, Maryland, Ms. Sanders now resides in Atlanta’s Morningside community. She earned her B.A. in Journalism and her Master’s of Mass Communications from the Grady College at the University of Georgia.
