Jackson Spalding Hosts Lovett Senior for Capstone Senior Project
High School Senior gets hands-on exposure to marketing communications through April-May practicum at Jackson Spalding.
ATLANTA — Jamesa Stokes, a senior at The Lovett School, is interning at Jackson Spalding, one of the largest independent marketing communications firms in the Southeast, during April and May. The three-day-per-week practicum will give her exposure to marketing, advertising, design and communications in preparation for her studies at The University of Kentucky, where she has earned the William C. Parker four-year academic scholarship.
Ms. Stokes, who graduates on May 17th, 2009, is an accomplished student who has made the Scholars List every semester of high school — earning two prestigious scholarship awards and induction into the National Honor Society.
Her passion is art, which she hopes to pursue as a double major in Studio Art and Architecture. Currently, she is exploring mixed media in acrylics, which she sells on commission. Ms. Stokes was a participant in the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design High School Intensive Program last summer and completed an art apprenticeship at City Hall East in 2007.
“We are delighted to give Jamesa the opportunity to experience how art and creativity can be applied in a commercial setting,” says Glen Jackson, another graduate of The Lovett School who co-founded Jackson Spalding in 1995. “We look forward to gaining insight from her as well.”
According to Angela Morris-Long, director of service learning at The Lovett School, the senior project is a culmination of a student’s academic career, intended as a means to synthesize important lessons learned or to advance a special talent the student has pursued during high school. Senior projects reinforce Lovett’s values and strategic plan by promoting interdisciplinary and experiential learning.
Ms. Stokes is the daughter of Tanya Jha. She is a resident of Atlanta.
