CASE STUDY: “THE” MEN’S CLOTHIER IN ATLANTA TURNS TO JS CREATIVE FOR A MAKE-OVER

Client:

H. Stockton, an Atlanta men’s clothier that has been dressing the city’s most prominent men for more than 30 years

Assignment:

Create a more updated and versatile look and theme for the company’s advertising and store signage

Strategy/Implementation:

H. Stockton was opening its fourth Atlanta location and came to JS Creative for a grand opening invitation and a banner. The concepts that JS Creative delivered so delighted the client that they requested a complete graphics package, and soon tapped the agency to also create and place the clothier’s print advertising.

H. Stockton had been using its original logo (oval above) for years. Customers had come to trust that symbol and JS Creative agreed that discarding it should not be an option. But the logo also was difficult to read when applied to banners and most printed materials. JS Creative took a small element of the logo – the one that resembled a “jack” – and turned it into a mark. The mark is now used with a new complementary logotype for H. Stockton, and has become a fun graphic element in the store’s advertising and store signage, becoming snowflakes for winter, flowers for spring, etc.

For its advertising, the owners wanted to communicate that no other store in town knew better what to tell men to wear for all occasions. JS Creative conceived a campaign called “We know clothes” and created ads for everything from symphony programs (“We don’t know how to conduct an orchestra. But we know clothes.”) to college game-day programs (“We don’t know what the ref was thinking. But we know clothes.”).

Results:

Jackson Spalding continues to partner with H. Stockton on media buying for these ads.
