ATLANTA (May 23, 2013) – Jackson Spalding has hired an award-winning journalist and a veteran public relations professional in the past month, deepening the firm’s ability to serve additional clients with opportunities and challenges.
In Atlanta, highly respected journalist Jeremiah McWilliams joins Jackson Spalding from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution where he covered governmental affairs, as well as the restaurant and beverage industries. He began his career at The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va., assigned to beats following Ford Motor Co. and Smithfield Foods Inc. His enterprise piece detailing the lives of Ford workers after their plant closed earned a “Best of Business” award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) and led to his second career stop at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
His beat in the Gateway City focused on consumer products, but he spent much of his time reporting on the InBev buyout of Anheuser-Busch – coverage that resulted in another SABEW award and appearances on CNBC, FOX Business Network and NPR.
In his new role at Jackson Spalding, Jeremiah will assist Toyota and Coca-Cola with their strategies to capture the attention of audiences around the Southeast and beyond.
Jackson Spalding’s Dallas office adds additional leadership capabilities and experience with the addition of Ann Jane Draper (formerly Ann Jane Cox), who most recently served as vice president at the global PR firm Weber Shandwick. In this role she led global and home-grown Texas accounts with vigor and creativity. With 14 years of agency experience, Ann Jane understands how to help global, national and regional clients as well as not-for-profit organizations to maximize visibility opportunities and reach their goals.
Ann Jane brings to Jackson Spalding a multitude of skills including: corporate communications, media/blogger relations, social media strategy/community management, digital video creative/production, non-profit advocacy, corporate and celebrity partnerships, website management, creative collateral development and events management. She will lead initiatives with The Office of James Burnett (OJB) and other Dallas-based clients. After the largest growth year for JS’ Dallas office, she will work to continue this business development momentum as well.
“With Jeremiah and Ann Jane we have the best of two worlds,” said Jackson Spalding co-founder and principal Bo Spalding. “Jeremiah helps our clients understand their businesses from an award-winning journalist’s perspective, while Ann Jane brings the skills of an exceptionally talented marketing communications professional. We are fortunate and excited to welcome them aboard.”
